Gift aid explained

If you are a UK taxpayer, you can Gift Aid your donation, making your gift worth almost one third more at no extra cost to you.

Using Gift Aid means that for every £1 you give, we receive just over 28p from the Inland Revenue, helping your donation go further. This means that £10 can be turned into £12.82 when using Gift Aid. This makes a huge difference to us, at no extra cost to you.

Higher Rate Tax Payers

If you pay tax at the higher rate, you can reclaim tax relief, through your Self Assessment tax return, at 18% (ie the difference between the higher rate of 40% and the basic rate of 22%).

For example, if you give £100 we can reclaim an extra £28.21 and you can reclaim another £23.08. Therefore, The Institute receives £128.21 at a cost to you of £76.92.

What to do next

Please complete the Gift Aid Declaration on the donation form, if:

  • you are a UK taxpayer and
  • the amount of income or capital gains tax that you pay at least equals the tax that we reclaim on your donation (currently 28p for each £1 that you give).

The standard Gift Aid wording on our forms covers donations from 6 April, 2000 and all donations in the future.

Please notify us if you change your name and address while the Declaration is in force.

You can cancel the Declaration at any time by notifying us, eg if your circumstances change and you are no longer paying tax on your income or capital. The Declaration will then not apply to donations you make on or after the date of cancellation or such later date as you specify.

If you wish Gift Aid to cover only the donation that you are currently making, please make it clear on the form.

If you are unsure about whether your donations qualify for Gift Aid tax relief, you can call the Inland Revenue on 0845 302 0203 and ask for the Gift Aid notes or visit the HM Revenue & Customs website.

Thank you again for your kind donation to Everyman.
