Flora London Marathon 2006
Taking part in the London Marathon is a truly amazing and life changing experience. No one can accurately describe the electric atmosphere, the support from your fellow runners, or the feeling of finishing in the Mall with tens of thousands of people cheering you home. It is an enormous challenge, but whatever your age or fitness, thousands before have proved that with a strong enough desire, you can do it!
The 2005 London Marathon was one of the best yet – we had beautiful weather, a great atmosphere, and the supporter team was strong and very vocal (!) - all helping our team of fantastic runners to complete the 26.2 miles raising over £70,000 for our world-leading cancer research. |

Getting a Place
The entry system for the 2006 Flora London Marathon has now opened and over 100,000 applications will again be submitted for the world’s favourite marathon. There are two ways to secure a place in the London Marathon:
1. Apply to the public ballot (closes 21st October)
2. Apply for one of our guaranteed places. Minimum Sponsorship £1,900
Entering the Public Ballot
We strongly recommend (and request) that you try both ways of applying to increase your chances of securing a place. Every year we receive many more applications for our limited guaranteed places, than we actually have. So please consider entering the public ballot and running for us – not only are you increasing your chances of getting a place, you are also allowing us to grow our running team. Entry forms can only be found in a free magazine about the London Marathon called Marathon News. You can only pick one up in all good sport shops or you can call 020 7902 0189 to find out where your nearest participating retailer is.
Applying for a Guaranteed Golden Bond
We would be delighted to receive your application for a guaranteed Golden Bond place. Simply Download a Running Registration Form or , complete sections 2 and 4–and return it to us ASAP. Who we give our places to will be dependant on the information your provide within the form. We will contact successful applicants in early December.
Is there any way I can secure a place early? Yes, in exceptional circumstances we will consider giving applicants a guaranteed place at an early stage. These are usually given to people who are sure they can raised significantly more than the minimum sponsorship amount, and have justified this on their registration form.
So whether you secure your Own Place in the London Marathon, or are interested in applying for one of our Guaranteed Golden Bond Places, we would be delighted for you to join the team – and step-by-step, you can help us in the fight against cancer.
Remember that by joining the running team you are helping us see an end to cancer as a life threatening disease. And as we are one of the most cost effective cancer research organisations in the world, with over 90% for our total income going directly into its vital work, you can be sure every penny you raise could not be put to better use.
