a legacy for life

By leaving a legacy to The Institute of Cancer Research, you have the chance to do more than you ever thought possible to help us in the fight against cancer. Every legacy we receive, no matter how large or small, is a promise for the future.

Of course your family and friends come first but, if you can remember us in your Will, future generations will benefit from your legacy. Your help will enable us to continue our research into understanding, treating and curing this terrible disease.

So that The Institute benefits from your legacy and to avoid confusion, we recommend that you use our legacy clauses:

Residuary legacy: I give all (or specify share) of the residue of my real and personal estate to The Institute of Cancer Research of 123, Old Brompton Road, London SW7 3RP (X90004) and the receipt of the Legacy Officer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a complete discharge to my Executors.

Pecuniary legacy: I give the sum of £... to The Institute of Cancer Research of 123, Old Brompton Road, London SW7 3RP (X90004) and the receipt of the Legacy Officer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a complete discharge to my Executors.

If you would like your legacy to be directed towards research into a particular male cancer, do ask your solictor to include an expression of wishes in the legacy clause of your Will. We recommend the following wording:

"... and I express the wish but without imposing any binding trust or obligation and without conferring any interest on any other person that the legacy should be applied towards (insert type of cancer research)."

This will ensure that your legacy will be used, so far as possible, to fund work into the research of your choice. Alternatively, if you do not specify a particular project, your legacy will be used for general cancer research. Whatever happens, you can be sure that your legacy will be put to good use.

If you'd like to receive free information about making a Will and leaving us a legacy, please don't hesitate to call us on 020 7153 5479/5486 or email us at

"One in three of us is diagnosed with cancer at some time in our lives. We
want to lessen those odds, and beat
cancer once and for all. Every legacy
we get gives us new hope."
