WELCOME
The Breakthrough Centre opened at the end of 1999 with the aim of producing
a coordinated program of research to tackle breast cancer. We are the first
dedicated breast cancer research centre in the UK, and directly linked to
one of the most renowned cancer hospitals in the world, The Royal Marsden.

Currently we have almost 100 people working on aspects of breast cancer from
basic to clinical. Our goal is to develop new methods to diagnose, treat and
prevent breast cancer.
The Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research
Centre, at The Institute of Cancer Research, is the result of more than 10
years work by Breakthrough Breast Cancer and its supporters. Since opening,
it has operated as a centre of excellence for breast cancer research. The
Centre benefits from links with other researchers and clinicians at the Institute
of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden Hospital. Attracting some of the
most talented researchers in the field, Breakthrough scientists are in a position
to push the boundaries of breast cancer research.
