Relax and Breathe, a CD developed collaboratively between
the IEU and Macmillan Cancer Support, uses relaxation techniques
to help people with breathlessness better cope with their
symptoms. This resource complements A
Breath of Fresh Air, the CD ROM program for healthcare
professionals on the management of breathlessness.
Relax and Breathe is also available in audiotape format and
as a resource pack for healthcare professionals. The latter
contains a booklet with advice and guidance on how to use
the CD or tape in a clinical/community setting. If you would
like to order a copy of Relax and Breathe, please call the
Macmillan Resources line, specifying
your preferred format.
Healthcare professional callers to the order line come from
a wide range of backgrounds, including general, specialist
and community nurses, GPs, occupational therapists, physiotherapists
and educators. People living with cancer requesting the resource
include patients and carers, as well as members of self-help
and support groups. To date, nearly 11,500 copies of the CD,
3,500 of the audiotape and 2,000 of the healthcare professional’s
resource pack have been distributed.
Relax and Breathe was recognised in the 2004
MarCom Creative Awards, where it was a Gold Finalist.
The IEU recently exhibited at a number of conferences to
raise awareness of Relax & Breathe and its other resources,
including:
- British Thoracic Society winter meeting, London, 7-8 December
2005
- British Thoracic Oncology Group annual meeting, Dublin,
26-27 January 2006
- Palliative Care Congress, Sheffield, 5-7 April 2006
