Support Us: How you can help

We rely on the efforts of our supporters to raise funds for The Institute's work. Details of our fundraising events can be found on our everyman campaign site, where you can also read more about some of our volunteers.

Getting involved

The most successful fundraisers concentrate on developing their areas of fundraising expertise. If you are new to fundraising, it is often best to start with a small event. You may already have an idea of the kind of event that you might like to do but it is worth bearing in mind the many tried and tested ways of fundraising.

  • Sponsored sporting events such as swimming, cycling, a run such as the Flora Light Challenge for Women on 5th September or the 2005 London Marathon, or even do a parachute jump and Freefall for Free! If you are interested in running the London Marathon for The Institute of Cancer Research next year please contact fundraising on 020 7878 3810.
  • Social events like coffee mornings, wine evenings and barbecues can be made into fundraisers. They can also provide a chance to get your friends and family interested in our work and to swap ideas and information.
  • Giving talks. Speak to local groups about a hobby or special interest you might have in aid of The Institute of Cancer Research.
  • Collections. You can collect almost anywhere but you do need the necessary permission. We can give advice on permits and will of course provide you with collecting tins.
  • Raffles. Organise a raffle either at your event or at a friend's. Try and get the prizes donated by local shops and businesses.
  • Quiz nights. Persuade your local pub or school to run a quiz evening where each team's entry fee is donated to The Institute.
  • Dress down days. Invite your friends/colleagues to wear casual clothes to school/work and donate £1 to The Institute of Cancer Research.
  • Dreams and ambitions. Have you always wondered about doing a parachute jump? Why not combine a lifelong ambition with an opportunity to get sponsored and raise some money for our work.

Our Fundraising Team is here to help make your fundraising a success; by offering advice and answering any queries you might have.
