Welcome to The Institute Of Cancer Research's new Community Outreach page. Here you will find information about how The Institute is involved in the community, and how the community can get involved with The Institute. Speakers in Schools Links with the next generation of scientists and professionals are important to The Institute. In 2003 a new scheme, Speakers in Schools, was launched. It encourages interested staff, both scientific and non-scientific, to visit high schools and share their knowledge with the students. Our speakers are able to tailor their visits to fit with your needs, as part of science and maths classes, careers education, or community awareness and healthy living programmes. If you are interested in having a speaker from The Institute visit your school, please contact Programme Co-ordinator on 020 7153 5505. Information Evenings Regular open evenings are held by the Joint Department of Physics for A-level students from local schools. A variety of demonstrations are run by Institute and Hospital scientists that illustrate diagnostic and therapeutic applications of physics to medicine. The aim of these evenings is to complement the school A-level physics curriculum and highlight Medical Physics as a career. Contact on 0208 661 3320 for further information. The Institute Needs You! Opportunities exist for members of the community to volunteer their time and energy at The Institute of Cancer Research as part of the fundraising team. We will cover your travel and lunch expenses in exchange for work experience in the fundraising department of a cutting edge research institution. For more information about how you can help us fight cancer, please contact on 020 7153 5315. There are also opportunities at our partner organisation, The Royal Marsden NHS Trust, for volunteers who would like to be more involved in helping cancer patients and their families through tough times. Please contact the Royal Marsden's Volunteer Co-ordinator on 020 8661 3824 for more information. Visit the Interactive Education Unit for more information about current projects and activities involving the use of interactive media in education and research.
