"Farewell Pie" CD raises funds for everyman

Date 3 March 2000

Jo Garrett's brother Andrew died of abdominal cancer in December 1998. He was 19 and a talented songwriter and musician.

Jo has produced a CD of his work in order to raise money for cancer research. She says: " I had already intended to bring together a collection of the best of his music into one CD for personal use. However, after beginning this process I realised that it would be a great opportunity to raise funds for everyman. Andrew had requested that if his music or writing should ever make any money, it should go to a good cause. So this CD is produced in his memory"

Before he died Andrew composed a comic musical called " Farewell Pie". There are other songs on the CD and Jo describes their sound as "cheesy pop/rock".

Since Christmas she has sold 120 copies. Both the CD and the cassette are £8 each. Many of the sales have come through the web site she set up. As well as a printable order form, it has a "try before you buy" section. The address is http://www.simmetrics.demon.co.uk/everyman/

All proceeds are being donated to the everyman campaign, which is The Institute of Cancer Research's campaign to raise awareness of and funds for male cancers. More information about supporting the campaign is available on this website.
