Vanity Fair / Gieves & Hawkes charity auction evening
In aid of everyman

Gieves & Hawkes will join forces with Vanity Fair magazine on Thursday 22nd November 2001 (6.30 pm) to host an exclusive evening at their 33, Sloane Square store, which houses the more contemporary Gieves label.

An auction of a personally tailored suit by fifth generation family member Robert Gieve will be the highlight of the evening with cocktails and chocolates served throughout. Guests will enjoy a 10% discount on the night and will also receive a goody bag, containing a £100 gift voucher for redemption at a later date on any suit purchase at the Sloane Square store. Tickets cost £10 and all proceeds from the tickets and auction will go to The Institute of Cancer Research's everyman appeal.

The evening features the Gieves new Autumn / Winter 2001 collection. This collection is driven by colour, pattern and detail, blending modern and traditional techniques with a new generation of single and double-breasted suits which are slim fitting and high buttoned. The collection also features bias-cut shirts in bold stripes and geometric prints. Colours are rich, bold and deliberately mismatched in intriguing combinations. Eveningwear includes hand beaded dinner suits, with tailored leather and full-length cashmere coats.

The everyman campaign was set up by The Institute of Cancer Research in 1997 to raise awareness of, and funding for, male cancers. One man dies of prostate cancer every hour in the UK. It mainly affects older men and worryingly, over the next decade, incidence is predicted to rise to overtake that of lung cancer. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer amongst young men aged between 20 - 35 and cases have risen by 70% in the last 20 years. Scientists do not know the causes of either of these cancers and more research is desperately needed.
