The research interests of the team are the detection, characterisation and biological consequences of carcinogen-DNA adduct formation, and the modulating influence of host factors in determining human susceptibility to cancer from exposure to environmental carcinogens. We are, in particular, interested in determining the pathways of activation of environmental carcinogens, in detecting carcinogen-DNA adducts in human tissues and in exploring the potential of DNA adduct formation to shed light on the aetiology of cancer and to provide a biomarker of cancer risk.
We are partners in the Network of Excellence ECNIS – Environmental Cancer, Nutrition and Individual Susceptibility funded by the 6th Framework Programme of the European Union.
